"No Dia de São Martinho: Lume, Castanhas e Vinho!" Hoje é dia de S. Martinho, é dia de Magusto, é dia de beber água-pé ou vinho novo e muitas castanhas assadas.

Conta a lenda que neste dia um cavaleiro romano, de nome Martinho, quando cavalgava a caminho da sua terra natal sobre um temporal, encontrou um mendigo cheio de frio à beira da estrada, que lhe pediu esmola. O cavaleiro com pena do mendigo, cortou a sua capa e deu ao mendigo parte dela para se cobrir e aquecer. Nesse preciso momento parou de chover e o sol apareceu, acredita-se que tenha sido a recompensa pela bondade do cavaleiro. Até hoje esse fenómeno é conhecido como "Verão de S. Martinho".

A tradição do Dia de São Martinho coincide com o fim das colheitas e o fim dos trabalhos agrícolas é celebrada com vinho novo, água-pé e castanhas assadas geralmente à volta de uma fogueira.
